If you want your bird watching to be educational and have fun, Gary is your man. The bird identification is not handed to you on a plate (any knowledgeable birdwatcher can do that) but you have to work things out for yourself with his guidance. This way you learn more about the bird’s appearance, colour, movement and sounds for use in subsequent encounters.

I came to “proper” bird watching (not to be confused with “twitching”) rather late in my fifties. I have been joining small group trips with him now for over 20 years, from half a day to a week both in the UK and Europe and can count the “dud” days on the fingers of one hand.

And by the way a sense of humour is a pre-requisite.

Bespoke Birding Tours: The tours are very relaxed and informal; binoculars and a telescope are available; and you are welcome to use your own car or travel with Gary. We usually see between 40 and 80 species per day; a weekend will yield between 60 and 100 species depending on the venue and time of year. The Tours cost £40 per day, plus expenses.
